Editorial Standards
Purpose of the catalogue
The AQOWA Public Domain Literature Library exists to present carefully selected public-domain works of historical nonfiction with editorial guides that help readers engage with the texts. The catalogue is designed for independent readers who wish to explore primary and secondary sources on conflict, social history, and technology without commercial or institutional gatekeeping.
Scope and selection
We include works that are in the public domain and that offer substantive historical content. All titles are sourced from Project Gutenberg. We do not claim to cover every work or every perspective; the selection reflects the catalogue project's judgment and the availability of suitable public-domain texts.
Source attribution
Every book is attributed to its original author, editor, or compiler as listed in the source metadata. Publisher information (Project Gutenberg) is clearly stated. No claim of original publication rights is made.
Bibliographic records
Each record includes title, authors, subject keywords, target-reader note, and a catalogue note. The keywords and target-reader fields come from the source metadata. The catalogue notes are prepared as supplementary catalogue material and summarises the work's scope, structure, and notable features.
Category assignment
Books are grouped into four thematic categories based on their primary subject matter. The categories are not exhaustive or mutually exclusive; they serve as navigation aids. A book may fit multiple categories but is listed in only one.
Editorial reading context
Each catalogue note is based on a reading of the text, focusing on its structure, diction, and evidentiary basis. the catalogue project does not claim to have read every book in full, but notes are informed by examination of representative passages and bibliographic data.
Edition facts and text measurements
Edition information (publisher, date of original publication when available) is provided. No word counts or page counts are supplied unless present in the source metadata.
Recommendations and related works
Category guides include three recommended books with specific reasons for each recommendation. These are not ranked or exhaustive; they are intended as entry points. Related works are suggested within reading paths on the archive page.
Corrections and reader reports
Readers may report errors or concerns via the contact page. We review reports and update records as warranted. No promise of immediate correction is made.
Public-domain limitations
All works are confirmed to be in the public domain in the United States as of the date of inclusion. Readers outside the U.S. should verify local copyright status. We do not guarantee copyright status in all jurisdictions.
Accessibility and readable presentation
The catalogue is presented as simple HTML without scripts or images, using semantic elements for structure. We aim for a readable, low-bandwidth experience. No style sheets are required.
Independence and editorial responsibility
The catalogue is edited by AQOWA Catalogue, an independent the catalogue project has no affiliation with any university, library, or commercial publisher. Editorial decisions are made by the catalogue project alone.
What the catalogue does not claim
We do not claim peer review, legal certification, or professional librarian credentials. We do not claim that every book has been read in full. We do not claim to represent all historical viewpoints. The catalogue is not a scholarly edition; it is a reading guide.
Ongoing maintenance
