Project: Steens Mountain Kiosk Project
Location: Oregon
Description: On September 26, Tread Lightly!, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Burns District, and volunteers from three local Boy Scout troops celebrated National Public Lands Day by installing two new educational kiosks along the Steens Mountain Loop Road in Oregon.
A total of 16 volunteers participated in the project, installing one kiosk at the south end of the Steens Mountain Loop Road and a second at the north end. Both kiosks feature tri-panel installations fabricated by AZ Plasma and display a total of six educational signs to help provide visitors with important information while recreating in the area.
Funding for the kiosks was provided by the Overland Expo Foundation and an Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant. The new installations will provide lasting educational resources that encourage responsible recreation and help visitors better understand how they can protect the Steens Mountain landscape.
Thank you to the partners who made this possible:
· Oregon Parks and Recreation Department Recreational Trails Program
· Overland Expo Foundation
· Bureau of Land Management – Burns District
